FAQ
Electric Utilities
Does it matter that the electricity utility I pay at my home is different from the electric utility where I want to charge my plug-in vehicle?
No, the ChargePoint Network insulates you from having to care about which electric utility is providing the electricity to the charging station.
Does the ChargePoint Network resell electricity?
No. The ChargePoint Network only provides charging station owners with the ability to set price, and establish a billing relationship with drivers that use the ChargePoint Networked Charging stations. Utilities that own and use ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations to deliver electric vehicle charging services can use the charging station’s utility grade meter to measure and establish pricing based on kWh. Other owners, such as corporations, municipalities, retailers and fleet managers can establish per-use pricing. In that case, think of the charging station like a parking meter. You pay for minutes of parking time, not for the amount of electricity used.
