BROADSTONE GRAND AVENUE UNVEILS FIRST
APARTMENT COMMUNITY ELECTRIC CAR CHARGE STATION IN AUSTIN
AUSTIN, Texas (March 21, 2011) – Broadstone Grand Avenue, a 280-unit multifamily community in Austin, Texas, is pleased to announce the installation of an on-site electric vehicle (EV) charging station. The ChargePoint® charging station, which is the city’s first at an apartment community, is available for use by residents 24/7 and by the public during leasing office hours.
Located at 1720 Grand Avenue Parkway, Broadstone Grand Avenue is owned and professionally managed by Alliance Communities. The apartment community and ownership/management are heavily involved in causes that are important to Austin residents – which include efforts to be more eco-conscious.
“Previously, there wasn’t a viable charging option for apartment renters who also wanted to own an electric vehicle,” says Joanna Hackney, Alliance Regional Manager who oversees five communities in Austin, including Broadstone Grand Avenue. “With an estimated 40 million plug-in electric vehicles expected to be on the road by 2030 – and with the recent release of additional electric car options such as the Nissan LEAF and Chevrolet Volt – adding a car charge station seemed like an obvious choice. We are excited to be the first apartment community to offer this service to our residents and the Austin community, while also supporting green living.”
Manufactured by Coulomb Technologies and installed by Verdek, Coulomb’s South central regional distributor, the ChargePoint charging station at Broadstone Grande Avenue offers dual outputs that deliver charges simultaneously – one at 120 volts and one at 240 volts. All ChargePoint EV charging stations are networked and managed by the ChargePoint® Network. The network provides EV drivers the ability to locate and navigate to a charging station and to detect charging station availability from an iPhone or BlackBerry app or any browser from mychargepoint.net. The ChargePoint Network also facilitates EV trip mapping, driver billing, 24/7 driver assistance, and greenhouse gas and energy savings (kWh) measurement. The ChargePoint Network also enables station owners to control station access via RFID card user authentication, and measure energy consumption for billing, reimbursement and energy accounting.
