Helda Rodriguez brings us exciting news about her travels to Washington, DC. As the president of NovaCharge, Coulomb’s Southeastern USA distributor, she was asked to join a panel for a Town Hall meeting on Clean Energy and contribute information on the ChargePoint America program and how NovaCharge is involved with helping end our dependency on foreign oil.

When she arrived, she was surprised to find herself in great company next to Senators Kerry and Merkley!

There were over 300 attendees in the room and although it seemed to go very quickly, it was a chance to educate many people on what Coulomb, ChargePoint America, and NovaCharge are doing to help.

Do you know the way to Plug-in 2010 in San Jose? If you were not able to attend the Plug-in 2010 this year, Coulomb has all the important headlines and images from the show. On Monday, July 26, Coulomb announced the availability of our residential charging station the CT500
Coulomb’s new CT500 Level II ChargePoint® Networked Charging Stations are designed for home and light commercial use. The announcement expands Coulomb’s spectrum of products for EVs from home to Level III fast charging stations. CT500 charging stations will be sold through Coulomb’s OEM and distribution channels. The ChargePoint Network is based on an open interface, standards-based architecture that provides station owners with a complete set of business applications to market and bill for electric transportation fueling services, and provides drivers with EV charging applications to make fueling easy. The CT500 stations will be on display at the Plug-In 2010 Conference and Exposition in San Jose, California on July 26-29, 2010 in Coulomb booth #110.
The CT500 charging station is a 7.2 kw single output station designed for residential and light commercial applications. The station delivers Level II (208/240 V @ 30 A) charging and is compatible with plug-in electric vehicles that comply with the SAE J1772TM plug-in electric vehicle-charging standard. The station’s small size and flexible network interfaces make it an ideal solution for utilities, homeowners, fleet managers, and auto manufacturers. The CT500 is compatible with Leviton’s recently announced innovative Evr-GreenTM EVSE installation system. This industry-first prewire mounting system provides for simple plug-in installation for new charging stations.

ChargePoint America sees its name in lights with the New York charging station unveiling this morning! The station is located at Edison ParkFast, 451 9th Avenue in Manhattan. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Coulomb CEO Richard Lowenthal, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan and Edison Properties Chairman Jerry Gottesman battled the rain but made it on time to attend this exciting event.

Mayor Bloomberg spoke at the celebration:“To meet the ambitious goals in PlaNYC, our long-term sustainability agenda, we will have to reduce transportation emissions by taking mass transit, walking or riding a bike, and increasing the use of alternative-fuel and electric vehicles,” he said. “Coulomb Technologies and the ChargePoint America program will help us support a new type of vehicle on City streets so we can reduce pollution and emissions in the most efficient way.”

New Yorkers will keep noticing this new A-lister charging station as The City of New York continues to install stations under the $37 million ChargePoint America program.

Look for more media coverage about this event throughout New York — the rain couldn’t keep these reporters from getting the top story today!

We stumbled upon this YouTube video by implovator last week and loved his demonstration of how easy it is to use a ChargePoint station. His battery was getting a little low, so he decided to stop at McDonald’s in Cary, NC and get a cold drink while his bike plugged in. Thanks for the great video!

This morning at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) headquarters in Palo Alto, Coulomb Technologies, EPRI, and the California Energy Comission unveiled the first ChargePoint America public charging station in the state of California. It is only the second of almost 5000 stations that will be installed in 9 metropolitan cities around the country as a part of the $37 million ChargePoint America Program. Two plug-in hybrid Priuses received a healthy dose of electric energy from the charging station during the station unveiling and dedication.

News conference speakers included Silicon Valley Leadership Executive Director Carl Guardino, Energy Commissioner Jeffrey Byron, Coulomb President Praveen Mandal, EPRI Vice President of Environment and Renewables Sector Bryan Hannegan, and US Department of Energy Supervisor, Hybrid Electric Systems and Materials Technology, Office of Vehicle Technologies Edwin Owens, and Palo Alto Mayor Pat Burt.

The Tampa Bay area today joined other leading metropolitan areas developing electric vehicle “plug-in ready” communities, as it officially launched Project Get Ready Tampa Bay. The regional collaboration includes the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, local governments, the Rocky Mountain Institute, Progress Energy Florida, Tampa Electric and Florida Power & Light. The project, part of a national non-profit effort, kicked off at Tropicana Field with several business and civic leaders including St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster, Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard and Hillsborough County Commissioner Rose Ferlita. The kick-off featured plug-in electric hybrid cars and trucks including the Chevy Volt, Toyota Prius and Ford Escape.
Coulomb’s southeast distributor NovaCharge was there and took these great photos.
“Tampa Bay is an important piece of this national program because of its large population, moderate density and mass transportation potential,” said Avera Wynne, planning director of the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council. “This project can build the framework for a large-scale roll-out of plug-in electric vehicles in the coming years.”
In partnership with the electric utilities in the region, Get Ready Tampa Bay will work to develop the technology and infrastructure necessary to support the widespread usage of electric vehicles to ensure that there are few obstacles for consumers interested in using electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). As the car industry and the federal government turn their sights on electric vehicles, cities and regions that demonstrate they are getting “plug-in ready” will attract vehicle manufacturers to launch in their area. Project Get Ready aims to make Tampa Bay just such an area. The United States has a goal of having at least one million plug-in electric vehicles on the road in the next five years. Get Ready Tampa Bay will help identify potential challenges and develop solutions to make this goal a reality. The use of electric transportation will reduce our regions dependence on foreign oil, improve air quality, and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“Tampa Bay is among leaders in the country such as Houston, Kansas City, Raleigh and Indianapolis, that are debunking the myth that plug-in electric vehicles will be ushered in only by densely populated cities or on the West Coast,” said Matt Mattila, Rocky Mountain Institute® Project Get Ready manager. Findings from the Tampa Bay area likely will have broad implications for transportation planning for other cities throughout the United States pursuing plug-in electric vehicle initiatives.
